Discover and Explore Programme of Events
Tuesday 1st June – DISCOVER & EXPLORE CREATIVE FAMILY ART DAY
Come and enjoy some messy charcoal art, outdoor games and a chance to catch up with other families.
Families with children 8-16 can book a morning (1030-1230) or afternoon session (1.30-3.30)
VARC Artist in Residence Sam Douglas will run a large scale collaborative drawing workshop in the copse close to the RTC (weather permitting) using charcoal and pastels. We’ll be using the landscape around us as inspiration for the drawing – it will be fantastic to be actually in the landscape we’re drawing.
To be run with North Tyne Youth, with Arts Awards for young people to be awarded at the end of the workshop.
8 June, 9.30-11.30am: VARC Artist in Residence Megan Randall will run a ceramics session for adults and pre-school children. Participants will be making small 5-10cm ceramic magnets with printed on words and texture which reflect the landscape – they could be shaped like a bird and describe flight, or cloud shaped with marks made with leaves to represent windy days. The rolling out and pressing things will work well with the children and Megan has letter stamps and texture tools for the adults.
15th June – 10am-12pm with Rachel Baron Ranger from Northumberland National Park Join staff from Northumberland National Park to create some art inspired by nature. The session will include a short local walk, to gather inspiration and do some activities to help everyone really engage with the nature you can find on your doorstep. We will also gather some natural materials to use back at the centre to make some nature prints using the Japanese nature printing method known as gyotaku. Gyotaku is a really simple printing method that can be used by anyone to make fantastic images using natural materials.
PLEASE NOTE THIS WORKSHOP IS NOW RUNNING AT OTTERBURN PRIMARY SCHOOL FOR PRIMARY SCHOOL CHILDREN ONLY.
